The Power of His Resurrection
04/06/2025
“I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead.”
— Philippians 3:10–11 (NIV)
There’s a longing in these words that echoes the heart of every true believer. Paul, who had already encountered Christ in a powerful way and had given up everything for Him, writes with a deep hunger: “I want to know Christ.” Not just know about Him, but to truly know Him. This isn’t about head knowledge or theological credentials, it’s about relationship, intimacy, and transformation.
Paul desires to know “the power of His resurrection.” This is not just the future hope of eternal life, but the current power that raised Jesus from the dead and now lives in every believer through the Holy Spirit. It’s the power that breaks chains of sin, empowers us to love, strengthens us in weakness, and breathes new life into what was once dead.
But Paul doesn’t stop there. He goes deeper, into the hard places we often avoid: “participation in his sufferings.” To know Christ means being willing to walk the road He walked, to carry crosses of our own, and to find Him in our lowest valleys. It’s in the fellowship of suffering that our faith is refined and our hearts are aligned more closely with His.
Paul even speaks of “becoming like Him in His death,” a full surrender of self, desires, reputation, and comfort. That’s a hard prayer to pray, but it’s the soil where resurrection power grows. Dying to self makes room for the Spirit to live fully in us.
And then Paul lands with hope: “and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead.” The “somehow” isn’t uncertainty in God’s promise but awe at the mystery and majesty of grace—that we, so broken and unworthy, might one day rise to eternal life because of Christ.
This is a hard journey for many of us to take. Here are some steps that you can use to help you along the way.
Pray for deeper intimacy with Christ.
Don’t settle for knowing about Him, ask to know Him.
Reflect on an area of your life where you need resurrection power.
The. bring it before God today.
Invite Christ into your suffering. Whether it’s grief, stress, or fear, let His presence comfort and shape you.
Practice surrender. Identify something you’re holding onto and ask God to help you lay it down.
Choose one area of your life to fully surrender to Christ. Don’t hold anything back. Let the power of His resurrection begin to work in that space, and watch how He transforms what you give to Him.
Jesus, I want to know You. Not just in word or theory, but in deep, personal relationship. I long to experience the power of Your resurrection in my life, to see dead things come alive again. Give me the courage to walk with You through suffering, and to surrender every part of myself, even unto death. May I be so closely conformed to Your image that Your life is seen in mine. And when all is said and done, may I rise with You in glory. Amen.
