A Way Out

03/23/2025

“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”

— 1 Corinthians 10:13 NIV

Temptation is not a sign of spiritual weakness, it is a reality of the human condition. Every believer, no matter how mature, encounters moments of testing. The Apostle Paul reminds the church in Corinth, and us, that temptation is common to all. You are not alone. That is one of the enemy’s most effective lies: “You’re the only one who struggles with this.” But Scripture demolishes that isolation. Others have walked through what you are facing, and, by God’s grace, they have overcome.

But Paul doesn’t stop there. He says God is faithful. Let that truth settle deeply in your spirit today. God does not abandon you when temptation arises. He is not standing back with crossed arms, waiting for you to fail. No, He is right there in the midst of it, strengthening you, guiding you, and most importantly, providing a way out.

Notice that the verse does not promise that we will be spared from temptation, but that we will not be tempted beyond what we can bear. The strength to endure is not found in ourselves but in God’s provision. The “way out” might come in the form of a whisper from the Holy Spirit, a Scripture recalled in a moment of decision, or even a phone call from a trusted friend at just the right time.

Endurance doesn’t always mean escape in the immediate sense, it means staying faithful through the test. It’s knowing that while temptation presses in, the power of Christ in you is greater. It means holding fast to what is right, even when wrong feels easier. And it means trusting that God’s grace is sufficient, not just to forgive, but to empower.

Identify one area where you feel tempted or weak. Write it down and bring it to God in prayer. Ask Him to show you the way out, and be alert today for how He may answer.

Father, thank You for Your faithfulness. In moments of temptation, remind me that I am not alone and that You are with me. Help me to recognize the way out You provide. Give me the courage to take it, and the strength to endure when escape is not immediate. Let me be a reflection of Your holiness, even in the fire of testing. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
