Recognizing and Worshiping the Son of Man

01/08/2025

“Jesus said, ‘You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you.’ Then the man said, ‘Lord, I believe,’ and he worshiped him.”
- John 9:37-38 (NIV)

The ninth chapter of John tells the powerful story of Jesus healing a man born blind. This miraculous event not only restores the man’s physical sight but also opens his spiritual eyes to the truth of who Jesus is. The culmination of this story occurs in verses 37-38, when the formerly blind man, standing face-to-face with the Son of Man, declares his faith and worships Jesus.

This moment is a beautiful example of how Jesus seeks out those who are ready to believe. After the man is interrogated and cast out by the Pharisees, Jesus finds him. This pursuit reveals Jesus’ tender care for those marginalized or excluded for their faith. It also shows that Jesus is not content with merely healing our physical or external conditions; He desires to bring us into a deeper relationship with Him.

When Jesus identifies Himself as the Son of Man, the man’s response is immediate and wholehearted: “Lord, I believe.” His belief is not just intellectual; it overflows into worship. This act demonstrates the natural response of a heart that has encountered the living Christ: belief leads to worship.

Here are three ways for you to apply today’s lesson and “see” as the blind man did.

Recognizing Jesus in Your Life
Are there moments in your life when Jesus has revealed Himself to you in a special way? Like the blind man, we often experience His presence most vividly in our times of need. Take time today to reflect on how God has pursued you and revealed His love to you.

Faith in Action
The man’s declaration, “Lord, I believe,” challenges us to consider our own response to Jesus. Is your faith something you declare openly? Is it evident in your daily life?

Worship as a Response
Worship is the natural outpouring of a heart that truly sees Jesus. Whether through prayer, song, service, or quiet moments of gratitude, let your belief in Jesus inspire genuine worship today.

Take a moment today to worship Jesus not for what He can do for you, but simply for who He is—the Son of Man, the Light of the World, and the Savior of your soul.

Lord Jesus, thank You for seeking me out even when I have felt cast aside. Open the eyes of my heart to see You clearly and respond in faith and worship. Help me to declare, “Lord, I believe,” not only with my words but with my life. May my faith bring glory to Your name and draw others to recognize You as the Son of Man. Amen.
