Be Strong and Courageous

03/02/2025

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
- Joshua 1:9 NIV

Fear and uncertainty are two of the greatest enemies of faith. They creep into our minds when we face new challenges, unexpected hardships, or seasons of transition. In today’s verse, God gives a direct command to Joshua: “Be strong and courageous.” But this was not just encouragement, it was a divine imperative, spoken by the Almighty to a man stepping into the massive role of leading Israel into the Promised Land.

Moses, the great leader and liberator of the people, had just died, and Joshua was now responsible for guiding an entire nation into an unfamiliar future. No doubt he felt overwhelmed. But God didn’t tell him to find strength within himself. Instead, He assured Joshua of His unwavering presence: “For the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

This promise wasn’t just for Joshua, it’s for us today. Life brings uncertainties. Maybe you’re facing a career change, a health crisis, or a spiritual battle. Fear whispers that you’re not enough, but God says otherwise. He commands you to be strong, not because of your own ability, but because He is with you.

Here are three ways you can apply this to your life today.

Acknowledge Your Fears
Being courageous doesn’t mean never feeling fear; it means trusting God despite it. Bring your worries before Him in prayer.

Meditate on God’s Promises
Just as God was faithful to Joshua, He is faithful to you. Remind yourself daily that He will never leave you or forsake you.

Step Forward in Faith
Whatever God has called you to do, take that step. Courage isn’t the absence of fear; it’s obedience in the face of it.

Let today be a day of courage. Whatever you face, remember, you are never alone.

Heavenly Father, I admit that sometimes fear and discouragement try to take hold of my heart. But I choose to trust in Your promise that You are always with me. Strengthen me to face each challenge with faith and confidence. Help me to walk boldly in obedience, knowing that You go before me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
