Stand Firm, Unmovable, Abounding

01/09/2025

“Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”
—1 Corinthians 15:58 (NIV)

The Apostle Paul ends this chapter on the resurrection with this charge: stand firm. He has just finished reminding the Corinthians of the victory we have through Jesus Christ, who has conquered sin and death. Because of this glorious truth, we are called to live lives that reflect our unshakable hope.

“Stand firm” and “let nothing move you” are calls to spiritual stability. These words evoke the image of a deeply rooted tree that withstands every storm. Life brings waves of doubt, fear, temptation, and disappointment. Yet, when our roots go deep into the truth of Christ’s resurrection and the promises of God, we are not easily swayed. Are there areas in your life where you feel shaken? Pause today and remind yourself of the unchanging foundation you stand on: Christ, the risen Savior.

Paul doesn’t just call us to stand firm but also to abound in the work of the Lord. Notice the word always. It’s a reminder that faith isn’t passive or occasional. To “abound” is to overflow, to give generously, and to serve with joy. Whether we are serving in the church, encouraging a friend, or raising children with godly principles, every act done for the Lord carries eternal significance. In God’s economy, no labor is ever wasted.

Do you ever feel like your efforts are unseen or insignificant? Paul’s assurance is clear: Your labor in the Lord is not in vain. Every prayer, every kind word, every sacrifice has a ripple effect in God’s kingdom. Even when the results are not immediate or visible, the resurrection guarantees that our work contributes to something eternal.

Take a moment today to reflect on areas where you might feel discouraged in your labor for the Lord. Write down one way you can abound in His work this week—whether by serving someone, praying more intentionally, or sharing your faith. Trust that every effort matters in the kingdom of God.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the victory we have in Christ Jesus. Help me to stand firm in Your truth and remain unmoved by the challenges and distractions around me. Strengthen me to abound in Your work with joy and perseverance, knowing that nothing I do for You is ever wasted. Let my life bring glory to Your name and reflect the hope I have in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
