Unashamed of the Gospel

01/31/2025

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.”
- Romans 1:16 (NIV)

The Apostle Paul’s bold declaration in today’s verse is one of the most powerful statements of faith in all of Scripture. He was writing to the believers in Rome, a city steeped in political power, intellectual arrogance, and rampant idolatry. Yet, in the face of such a culture, Paul declared that he was not ashamed of the gospel.

Why would he even need to say this? Because in human terms, the message of the gospel seems foolish to many. To the Jews, it was a stumbling block because they expected a conquering Messiah, not a crucified one (1 Corinthians 1:23). To the Greeks, it was foolishness because it defied human wisdom. Even today, the world mocks or dismisses the message of Christ’s sacrificial love and resurrection. The pressure to conform and be silent about our faith is real, yet Paul’s words challenge us: Are we ashamed of the gospel?

Paul understood something though, the gospel is the power of God for salvation. It is not just a philosophy or a moral teaching; it is the very force that transforms lives. Through the gospel, the lost are found, the broken are restored, and the dead are brought to life in Christ. This message is not just for a select group but for everyone who believes, Jews and Gentiles, rich and poor, the religious and the rebellious. No one is beyond the reach of God’s grace.

If we truly grasp the power of the gospel, how can we be ashamed of it? Instead, we should be eager to share it, knowing that it carries the power to change hearts, families, and nations. But sharing the gospel requires courage. It may cost us friendships, social approval, or even our reputation. Yet, Jesus reminds us, “Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven” (Matthew 10:32).

Today, let’s consider the following questions as we strive to be unashamed like Paul.

1. Are there moments when you feel hesitant or afraid to share your faith? What holds you back?

2. How has the gospel changed your life? Who in your life needs to hear that message of transformation?

3. What practical steps can you take to live unashamed of the gospel this week?

Let us go forth today with confidence, knowing that we carry the life-changing power of the gospel. Let’s live unashamed!

Heavenly Father, thank You for the power of the gospel that brings salvation to all who believe. Give me boldness to live unashamed of my faith, even when the world opposes it. Help me to remember that the message of Christ is the greatest hope this world has. Use me to share Your truth with those around me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
