No Room in the Inn

12/22/2024

“and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.” - Luke 2:7 (NIV)

The scene described in Luke 2:7 is humble and unassuming, yet it marks the most profound moment in human history: the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Born not in a palace or surrounded by wealth, but in a stable, wrapped in simple cloths, and laid in a manger, Jesus came to a world that had “no room” for Him.

It’s striking to think that the King of kings was introduced to the world in such a setting. This wasn’t an oversight or a mistake; it was part of God’s divine plan. His humble beginnings remind us that Jesus didn’t come for the privileged few but for all humanity. His birth was a declaration that no one is too lowly, too broken, or too insignificant for His love.

But the phrase “no room” also speaks to the condition of our hearts. Just as the innkeeper found no space for the Holy Family, we too can be guilty of crowding Jesus out of our lives. The busyness of daily routines, the pursuit of personal ambitions, or even the weight of our worries can leave little room for Him to dwell in our hearts.

Today, take a moment to examine your heart. Is there “room in the inn” for Jesus? Have you given Him space to be at the center of your life? Invite Him in—not just into the parts that are convenient or polished, but into the messy, ordinary places as well.

This season, let the humility of Christ’s birth inspire you to make room for Him and to extend His love to others. Look for ways to welcome those who may feel outcast, neglected, or overlooked, just as He was. Whether it’s through a kind word, a thoughtful gesture, or a prayer, let the love of Christ flow through you.

Find a quiet moment today to create space for Jesus. Whether through prayer, reading Scripture, or simply sitting in His presence, let Him fill your heart and guide your day.

Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus, into the world in such a humble way. His birth reminds me of Your deep love for all people, no matter their circumstances. Help me to make room in my heart and life for You today. Teach me to embrace humility and to share Your love with those around me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
