Nothing is Impossible with God

“For no word from God will ever fail.” — Luke 1:37 (NIV)
Luke 1:37 stands as a resounding declaration of God’s unlimited power and unwavering faithfulness. These words were spoken by the angel Gabriel to Mary, a young woman from Nazareth, who had just received astonishing news: she would conceive a child by the Holy Spirit, and this child would be the Son of God. Mary, understandably perplexed, asked how such a thing could be possible since she was a virgin. Gabriel’s response to her question is both simple and profound: “For no word from God will ever fail.”
To fully appreciate the weight of this statement, we must consider the context in which it was given. Earlier in Luke 1, Gabriel also appeared to Zechariah, an elderly priest, to announce that his wife Elizabeth would bear a son — John the Baptist — despite her advanced age and barrenness. Both these announcements challenged natural limitations and human understanding. Gabriel’s words to Mary, then, are not merely a statement of God’s power, but a reminder of His faithfulness to fulfill His promises, no matter how improbable they may seem.
The phrase “no word from God” highlights the fact that God’s promises are not mere human intentions. When God speaks, it is not like any other word we hear; it carries the weight of His divine authority. His word is an expression of His will, and what He wills, He brings to pass. There is no promise too big, no circumstance too challenging, and no situation too hopeless for God. When He declares something, it will come to fruition because His word is inseparable from His power.
Think of the vastness of these words: "no word from God will ever fail." Throughout Scripture, we see the unfolding of this truth. God spoke creation into being with His word. He promised Abraham a son in his old age, and despite all odds, Isaac was born. He delivered the Israelites from Egypt, parted the Red Sea, and provided for them in the wilderness. His promises to His people Israel — and ultimately, the promise of a Messiah — were all fulfilled in Jesus Christ. Time and again, God’s word has proven true.
What does this mean for us in our everyday lives? It means that we can trust God’s word, no matter what circumstances we face. Perhaps you’re waiting on God for a breakthrough — a job, a healing, a restored relationship, or guidance for a difficult decision. Luke 1:37 reminds us that when God speaks, His promises are sure. It invites us to shift our focus from our limitations to His limitless power.
However, trusting in God's word doesn't mean we will always understand how or when His promises will unfold. Just like Mary, we may have questions or feel overwhelmed by the impossibility of our situation. But God calls us to believe that His power is greater than our doubts. Mary’s response is a beautiful model for us: despite her uncertainty, she responded with faith, saying, "I am the Lord's servant... May your word to me be fulfilled." (Luke 1:38).
God's word will never fail. But His timeline and ways often look different from ours. We need patience, faith, and an open heart to recognize how He is moving, even when we can't see it clearly. Trusting God means believing He is working behind the scenes, orchestrating His will in His perfect timing.
God’s promises are not bound by human limitations. Trust that He will do what He has said, for His word never fails.
As you go about your day, meditate on Luke 1:37 and remember that God's promises are always reliable. No matter what you're facing, trust that nothing is impossible with God.
Heavenly Father, thank You for the reminder that Your word will never fail. Help us to trust in Your promises, even when our circumstances seem impossible. Strengthen our faith to believe that You are working all things together for our good, even when we cannot see it. Teach us to lean on Your power, not our understanding, and to rest in the assurance that Your word is true and will always accomplish its purpose. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
