An Open Invitation

“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.”
— *Revelation 3:20 (NIV)
In this powerful verse, Jesus speaks directly to each of us with a personal invitation. Imagine the scene: He stands at the door of your heart, knocking gently but persistently, waiting for you to let Him in. This is not a forceful entrance but an offer rooted in love and patience. Jesus desires a relationship with us, one where we commune together, share life, and grow closer to Him. These words remind us that Jesus is always present, patiently waiting for us to invite Him into our lives. He stands at the door of our hearts, knocking, and longing for a relationship with us.
Just like any guest knocking at our door, Jesus desires to come in and have fellowship with us. He wants to dine with us, to share in our joys and sorrows, and to be an intimate part of our lives. But the choice is ours - we must be the ones to open the door and invite Him in.
The imagery of sharing a meal is significant. In biblical times, eating together was a sign of deep fellowship and intimacy. When Jesus says, “I will come in and eat with that person,” He is inviting us into a relationship that is personal, close, and filled with genuine connection.
Today, consider if you have opened the door to Him. Perhaps you’ve heard His knock but hesitated to respond. Maybe there are areas in your life where the door is only partially open. Jesus is not asking for a perfect home; He’s asking for an open heart.
Take a few moments today to sit quietly and reflect on areas of your life where you might be keeping Jesus at the threshold. Invite Him in, trusting that His presence will bring peace, transformation, and deep connection. Let us open our hearts to Him and allow Him to come in and transform our lives. May we experience the joy and peace that comes from having Jesus dwell within us.
Lord Jesus, thank You for knocking on the door of my heart. Help me to open it fully to You. I desire to have deep fellowship with You, to share my life with You, and to grow in Your presence. Come in and make Your home in me. Amen.
