The Power of the Spirit

“And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.” - Romans 8:11 (NIV)
This verse from Romans offers a powerful reminder of the life-giving force of the Holy Spirit. Paul, in writing this, connects the believer’s life directly to the resurrection power of God. It is not just about spiritual renewal; it’s about physical renewal, too. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead dwells in us as believers, empowering us to live in the fullness of God’s purposes here on earth.
Imagine the resurrection power that brought Christ back from death—an act so pivotal that it changed the course of human history. That same power is not distant or confined to biblical history but is active and alive in us today.
Many times, we may feel weighed down by the limitations of our mortal bodies—fatigue, illness, or even the struggle with sin. But Romans 8:11 calls us to look beyond our earthly weaknesses to the Spirit who gives life. This verse isn’t merely about the hope of resurrection after death; it’s also a promise of renewal in this life.
Consider moments when you have felt drained, physically, emotionally, or spiritually. In those times, have you invited the Holy Spirit to fill you with life? Just as Jesus was raised from the dead, the Spirit can resurrect parts of our lives that seem lifeless. Whether it’s rekindling joy in your heart, renewing strength in your body, or bringing clarity to a confused mind, the Spirit is at work within you.
Have you ever met someone who had battled cancer for years? They may be physically frail, but their spirit is strong, full of peace and hope. They may say something like “it‘s the Holy Spirit who sustains me and when my body feels like giving up He provides my strength.” When I hear examples like this, it reminds me that the Spirit doesn’t always change our circumstances, but He changes us in the midst of them.
Where in your life do you need the resurrection power of the Holy Spirit to bring renewal or strength? How can you lean into that power today?
Lord, thank You for the gift of Your Spirit that dwells within me. I ask that You fill me with the resurrection power that raised Christ from the dead. Let that same power bring life to my mortal body and renew my mind, heart, and soul. When I feel weak, remind me that I have the Spirit of the living God inside me. Help me to live in the fullness of that truth today. Amen.
