Worship Fit for a King

12/26/2024

“When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.”
– Matthew 2:10-11 (NIV)

The visit of the Magi to the Christ child is a moment of profound spiritual significance. These wise men, scholars from a distant land, were not of Jewish heritage, yet they recognized the divine importance of Jesus’ birth. Their journey to Bethlehem was guided by a star, and upon finding the child, they responded with overwhelming joy and worship.

What is striking is the intentionality of their actions. They didn’t approach Jesus casually or indifferently. They came prepared, bringing treasures fit for a king:

They gave Gold which symbolized royalty, acknowledging Jesus as the King of Kings.

The Frankincense represented divinity and worship, signifying Jesus’ role as our High Priest.

While Myrrh, is often associated with burial, this pointed to Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice on the cross.

These gifts weren’t merely valuable, they were prophetic, declaring who Jesus is and what He came to do. Their response reminds us of the posture we should take when we come before Christ. Worship is not about convenience but about offering our best, our hearts, our time, our talents, and our treasures.

We too can be like the Magi if we follow these simple steps.

Seek Him Diligently: The Magi followed the star with determination. Are you seeking Jesus with the same fervor? Spend time in prayer and Scripture, allowing Him to guide you daily.

Rejoice in His Presence: The Magi were overjoyed upon seeing the star and finding Jesus. Reflect on the joy of your salvation today.

Offer Your Best: Consider what gifts you can present to Jesus today. Is it your time, talents, or resources? True worship involves giving Him the best of who we are.

Today, take a moment to consider how you can intentionally worship Jesus. Whether through prayer, an act of kindness, or surrendering something you’ve held back, let your offering be an expression of your love for Him.

Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus, to be our King, High Priest, and Savior. Help me to seek You with all my heart and to worship You in spirit and truth. Teach me to give You my very best, for You are worthy of all my praise. May my life be a reflection of the love and devotion You deserve. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
