The Gift of the Son

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
- Isaiah 9:6 (NIV)
Isaiah 9:6 is a powerful prophecy, written hundreds of years before the birth of Jesus, that reveals God’s promise to send a Savior. This verse encapsulates both the humanity and divinity of Jesus Christ. He was born as a child, fully human, yet given as a Son, fully divine. Through this gift, God fulfilled His promise to redeem and restore His people.
Each title in this verse paints a vivid picture of who Jesus is and the role He plays in our lives:
Wonderful Counselor
Jesus guides us with wisdom that surpasses human understanding. He is the One we can turn to in times of confusion or need, offering divine insight and direction. His counsel is not only wise but also filled with compassion and love.
Mighty God
This title affirms His power and strength. Jesus is not just a great teacher or prophet; He is the mighty Creator and Sustainer of the universe. When life feels overwhelming, we can rest in His omnipotent care.
Everlasting Father
While Jesus is the Son of God, He also reflects the tender and protective love of a father. His care for us is eternal, unchanging, and personal. He invites us into a relationship where we are known, valued, and cherished.
Prince of Peace
In a world filled with turmoil, Jesus offers a peace that transcends circumstances. He reconciles us to God and provides inner peace that anchors us amidst life’s storms.
Take time today to reflect on the ways Jesus embodies these titles in your life. Do you need guidance from the Wonderful Counselor? Are you seeking the strength of the Mighty God? Do you long for the tender care of the Everlasting Father, or are you desperate for the peace only the Prince of Peace can provide? Whatever your need, He is sufficient.
As you prepare for Christmas, let this verse remind you that Jesus is the ultimate gift. He came to bring hope, salvation, and restoration. Let His presence fill your heart with gratitude and awe.
Share the hope of Isaiah 9:6 with someone today. Encourage them by pointing to the wonderful truth of who Jesus is and the difference He can make in their lives.
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Thank You that through Him, we find wisdom, strength, love, and peace. Help us to rely on Him in every area of our lives. Open our hearts to embrace Him fully, not just during this season, but every day. We praise You for the wonderful plan of salvation You fulfilled through Jesus. In His name, Amen.
