Unity in Action

“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!”
— Psalms 133:1 (NIV)

Unity. It’s a small word with immense power. In Psalms 133, David beautifully captures the joy and blessing of harmonious relationships, especially among God’s people. Unity is described as “good and pleasant,” emphasizing not only its righteousness but also the warmth it brings to those who experience it.

This type of unity isn’t just about being physically together. It’s about being of one heart, one purpose, and one mind in Christ. It’s the unity that reflects God’s love, transforms communities, and impacts lives. Imagine the beauty of a family, a church, or a community that genuinely walks together in love, forgiving one another, and seeking each other’s best interests.

Think of a close-knit family, one that truly supports one another. They face challenges together, celebrate victories as one, and create a refuge of encouragement and strength. Now, imagine that unity in a church setting. A congregation working together, serving one another selflessly, and encouraging each other daily is a living example of God’s love to the world.

Another example is a sports team. Each player has a role, but the goal is shared: winning. When every player values the team above individual glory, the team thrives. Likewise, when we, as believers, prioritize God’s purposes above personal agendas, we create a unified body that can stand strong against challenges.

Here are a few things we can do right now to start to build unity with others.

Seek Unity in Relationships

Think of any strained relationship you may have. Pray about ways to build bridges instead of walls. Maybe it’s offering a sincere apology, letting go of a grudge, or finding common ground.

Serve One Another

Look for ways to serve your family, friends, or church. When we serve others without expecting anything in return, we cultivate unity by putting love into action.

Pray for Unity

Pray for unity within your church, family, and community. Ask God to strengthen the bonds of love, forgiveness, and understanding among His people.

Unity is more than a goal; it’s a journey. As we grow in love and forgiveness, we reflect the heart of God to a world longing for peace and connection. How will you choose to pursue unity today?

Lord, thank You for showing us the beauty of unity through Your Word. Help us to live in harmony with others, forgiving, loving, and serving one another as You have loved us. May our unity be a testimony of Your love to the world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
