The Purpose of Christ’s Coming

"For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him." - John 3:17 (NIV)

In today’s verse, we find the heart of God’s mission through Jesus Christ: salvation, not condemnation. It's easy to feel weighed down by the challenges and shortcomings of life, often believing that God’s focus is to highlight our mistakes or failings. However, John 3:17 reminds us that Jesus came not to judge or condemn us, but to rescue and restore us.

Understanding God's Intention

God’s motivation for sending Jesus is rooted in love. Many people mistakenly view God as distant or angry, waiting to catch them in sin. However, this verse assures us that Christ came as a lifeline for humanity, not as a punisher. He entered a broken world to offer healing and redemption. This is a pivotal distinction: God's plan for us is not to expose our failures but to bring us into a relationship with Him through the saving grace of Jesus.

Grace

Imagine a man who has made many mistakes and is burdened with guilt. He feels unworthy to approach God and believes he will only face judgment if he tries. But one day, he meets someone who tells him about John 3:17. Suddenly, his perspective shifts. He realizes that Jesus didn't come to point out his faults but to offer him freedom from them. This revelation changes his life, and he begins a journey of faith, experiencing the love and acceptance of Christ.

Sometimes, we fall into the trap of believing we aren’t “good enough” for God. When we look at our failures, shortcomings, or sins, it's easy to assume we're disqualified from His grace. But John 3:17 calls us to a higher understanding of God’s nature. He is not against us; He is for us. Jesus’ mission was to seek and save, to offer hope where there was none, and to bring light into the darkest corners of our lives.

Consider this: Do you live your life feeling condemned or accepted by God? When you stumble, do you retreat in shame, or do you approach God with confidence, knowing that His purpose is not to condemn but to save?

Reflect on the areas of your life where you may feel condemned. Surrender those to Jesus, who came not to judge but to offer you life and redemption. Ask for the strength to accept His grace fully and walk in the freedom He provides.

Lord, thank You for sending Your Son not to condemn me, but to save me. Help me to live in the light of Your grace and to embrace the freedom that Jesus offers. Whenever I feel unworthy, remind me of Your love and Your purpose in my life. Amen.
