Rejoicing in the Truth

"Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth."
- 1 Corinthians 13:6 (NIV)
In a world filled with darkness and deceit, it can be easy to lose sight of what true love looks like. We are bombarded with messages that tell us love is about self-gratification, about getting what we want at the expense of others. But the love that God calls us to is so much more than that.
In this verse, Paul beautifully illustrates a core characteristic of love: its alignment with truth and goodness. Love, in its purest form, finds no pleasure in wrongdoing or injustice. Instead, it thrives in the presence of truth.
We are reminded that love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. This means that true love always seeks to protect and uphold what is good and right. It does not turn a blind eye to wrongdoing or injustice, but instead stands up for what is true and just.
As followers of Christ, we are called to embody this kind of love in our daily lives. We are called to be a light in the darkness, to speak out against injustice and to stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves. This kind of love may not always be easy, but it is always worth it. This means that our joy should stem from the truth—both in our personal integrity and in the justice we see in the world. When we encounter situations where truth prevails, we should rejoice, knowing that this reflects the heart of God.
However, this can be challenging. The world often presents scenarios where falsehood seems advantageous, where bending the truth might yield immediate benefits. But true love—God’s love—does not compromise. It does not celebrate lies or deceit, no matter how convenient or profitable they might seem.
Today, let's examine our hearts and our actions. Are there areas where we might be delighting in things that are not aligned with God's truth? Are we tempted to find satisfaction in others' failures or in situations that don't reflect His justice and righteousness?
Let us strive to cultivate a love that mirrors the love described in 1 Corinthians 13:6. A love that finds joy in truth and righteousness, a love that aligns with God's heart. In doing so, we become beacons of His light in a world that often prefers shadows.
May we seek to protect and uphold what is good and true, and to rejoice in the light of God's truth. May our love be a beacon of hope in a world that so desperately needs it.
Dear Lord, help me to love as You love. Guide my heart to rejoice in truth and to turn away from anything that does not reflect Your goodness. Let my actions and words be rooted in integrity and justice. Fill me with Your Spirit, that I may live out Your truth each day. Amen.
