The Battle Beyond the Visible

4/2/2024

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” - Ephesians 6:12 (ESV)

In the middle of our daily struggles, it’s easy to focus solely on the tangible aspects of our challenges—the people, circumstances, and obstacles we can see and touch. However, Ephesians 6:12 reminds us that there’s a deeper, spiritual dimension to our battles.

Paul’s words urge us to recognize that our true adversaries are not human, but spiritual forces of darkness operating in unseen realms. These forces seek to hinder our faith, steal our joy, and thwart God’s plans for our lives. But take heart, for as believers, we are not defenseless.

Just as a soldier prepares for battle, we too must arm ourselves with the spiritual armor described in Ephesians 6:13-18—truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, and the Word of God. By putting on the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, we can be prepared to face whatever challenges come our way. And through prayer and reliance on God’s strength, we can stand firm against the schemes of the enemy.

Today, let’s remember that our struggles are not truly physical or emotional but spiritual. Let’s put on the full armor of God, knowing that He equips us to overcome every obstacle and emerge victorious in the battles we face. He has already won the victory over the enemy! As we walk in His strength, we can confidently navigate the unseen warfare, knowing that He who is in us is greater than he who is in the world. May we rely on His strength and trust in His promises to guide us through.

Take heart in the knowledge that although God is with us, He does instruct us to put on the full armor of God for battle. This is for our protection. Then we are told to stand firm in our faith, knowing that we are more than conquerors through Him who loves us.
