He Was Fully Man

"In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence."
- Hebrews 5:7 ESV
This verse paints a powerful picture of Jesus during his time on earth. Despite being the Son of God, Jesus still felt the weight of his humanity. He experienced the same emotions and struggles that we do. It depicts a scene of Jesus in his earthly ministry, facing the weight of his impending crucifixion. And in the face of overwhelming circumstances, he turned to God in prayer.
Jesus didn't just offer up casual prayers; he poured out his heart to the Father with cries and tears which were loud, and real. This passage reveals the depth of Jesus' connection with the Father, exemplifying his dependence on God in the face of suffering.
He didn't hold back in expressing his emotions and his deep need for God's help. And because of his reverence and submission to God, his prayers were heard. This highlights the power of Jesus' relationship with the Father and the efficacy of his prayers. Even in his darkest hour, Jesus trusted in God's sovereignty and plan.
As followers of Christ, we can learn a valuable lesson from Jesus' example. When we face challenges, trials, and struggles in our own lives, we can turn to God in prayer with the same level of intensity and sincerity. We can pour out our hearts to him, knowing that he hears us and cares for us deeply. We are reminded of Jesus' humanity and his willingness to endure suffering for our sake.
In times of desperation, when we feel like we are facing death itself, we can take comfort in the fact that Jesus understands our pain. He has been there before, and he is with us every step of the way. Let us follow his example of fervent prayer and trust in the Father's faithfulness to hear and answer us according to his will.
May we approach the throne of grace with confidence, knowing that we serve a God who is able to save us from death and who loves us more than we can imagine. Let us draw near to him in reverence and humility, trusting in his power and his unfailing love for us. And may we echo the example of Jesus by offering our prayers with reverence and trust. And may we find comfort in knowing that, just as Jesus was heard in his hour of need, so too will our prayers be heard by our loving and merciful Heavenly Father.
