Holiness through Peace

"Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord."
- Hebrews 12:14 ESV
In a world plagued with chaos and division, the pursuit of peace may seem like an elusive dream. However, as followers of Christ, we are called to strive for peace with everyone. Hebrews 12:14 reminds us that peace is not merely a suggestion, but an essential quality that reflects our relationship with God. Peace is not just the absence of conflict, but a state of harmony, reconciliation, and unity in the midst of diversity.
As we navigate our Christian journey, we must recognize the importance of peace in every aspect of our lives. This verse encourages us to be intentional and diligent in our pursuit of peace. We are called to actively seek peace, not only within the body of believers but with all individuals we encounter. Our actions, words, and attitudes should promote reconciliation and bridge the gaps that divide us.
Nevertheless, the pursuit of peace should not overshadow our pursuit of holiness. The author of Hebrews intertwines peace with holiness, emphasizing that they go hand in hand. Without holiness, no one will see the Lord. Holiness is the character of God imprinted upon His children, reflecting His righteousness, purity, and moral excellence.
To strive for holiness is to align our lives with God's will and purpose. It is a continuous process of transformation, empowered by the Holy Spirit, as we surrender ourselves to God's refining work. Our pursuit of holiness is not about achieving perfection but rather about growing in Christ-likeness daily.
When we strive for peace and holiness, we demonstrate an authentic witness of Christ's love to the world. Our pursuit of peace displays the power of God's grace to overcome conflicts, while our pursuit of holiness reflects the transforming work of the Holy Spirit within us.
It is important to note that peace and holiness are not mutually exclusive; they are inseparable. We cannot claim to pursue holiness while harboring bitterness, anger, or division in our hearts. Likewise, we cannot truly pursue peace if we compromise our convictions or neglect our commitment to righteousness.
Let us remember Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, who reconciled us to God through His sacrifice on the cross. It is through His example and the indwelling Holy Spirit that we find the strength and guidance to pursue peace and holiness.
Today, let us examine our hearts and ask ourselves, "Am I actively seeking peace with everyone? Am I striving for holiness in all areas of my life?" May we rely on God's grace and power to help us grow in these areas, for it is through our pursuit of peace and holiness that the world will see the Lord's transformative work in our lives.
Together let us thank the Father for reminding us of the importance of peace and holiness. Let’s ask Him to help us to be intentional in our pursuit of peace, seeking unity and reconciliation with all people. May He empower us by His Spirit to strive for holiness, aligning our lives with His will. And may we reflect His love, grace, and righteousness to the world.
