Renewed Day by Day

"So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day."
- 2 Corinthians 4:16 ESV
In a world where everything around us seems to be constantly changing and deteriorating, it can be easy to feel discouraged and disheartened. We see our bodies aging, our dreams evolving, and our circumstances shifting, our hair falling out or turning grey, sometimes both. But we, as believers, we have a source of hope that transcends the temporal nature of this world. In 2 Corinthians 4:16, the apostle Paul reminds us that despite the decay we witness in our physical bodies, there is an inner self that is being renewed day by day.
Paul's words offer a level of encouragement to those facing hardships, struggles, and the overall weariness of life. He reminds us that our outer self, our physical being, may indeed be wasting away. We experience the effects of aging, illness, and the toll of everyday life. However, within us resides an inner self, our spiritual being, that is being renewed day by day.
As followers of Christ, we are not solely defined by our physical appearance or our external circumstances. Our true identity lies in our connection to the eternal God who breathes life into our souls. We are not limited by the fleeting nature of this world; instead, we are invited to embrace the transformative power of God's Spirit within us.
The cool part about this renewal is it is not a one-time event. It is not a quick fix or a temporary solution to life's challenges. Rather, it is an ongoing process, a journey of growth and transformation that takes place every day. God desires to continually mold us into the image of His Son, Jesus Christ.
This renewal takes place as we seek to walk closely with our heavenly Father, spending time in His presence, and aligning our hearts with His Word. It is through prayer, worship, and intentional fellowship with other believers that our inner self is strengthened and revitalized. It is through the study of Scripture and meditation on His promises that our minds are renewed and our perspectives transformed.
The world may try to define us by our outward appearance, our achievements, or our circumstances, but as children of God, we are called to fix our eyes on the unseen. We are called to live by faith and not by sight. Our hope is not rooted in the temporary, but in the eternal promises of our faithful God.
Today, let us be encouraged by the truth that our inner self is being renewed day by day. Let us not lose heart in the face of physical challenges or discouraging circumstances. Instead, let us lean into the transformative power of our loving Father, knowing that He is continually working in us and through us. May we embrace the journey of renewal and allow His Spirit to shine through us, bringing hope, joy, and strength to those around us.
Let’s be thankful for the promise of renewal that God offers us each day. Let us not be discouraged by the physical challenges we face or the changing circumstances around us. Instead, allow God to strengthen your inner self, renew your mind, and fill you with His Spirit. May we live as a true reflections of His love and grace in this world.
