Finding Strength in the Lord

"The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him."
- Psalm 28:7 (ESV)
As we journey through the season of Advent, we are reminded of the incredible attribute of God that is often associated with this special time: Joy. The joy that comes from the anticipation of Christ's birth, the joy that fills our hearts as we celebrate His coming, and the joy that sustains us throughout our lives. In Psalm 28:7, we find a beautiful declaration of the Lord's provision and our response of joy.
"The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him."
In this verse, the psalmist acknowledges that the Lord is not only a source of strength but also a shield, protecting us from harm and providing refuge. This attribute of God is closely tied to the advent season, as we reflect on the birth of our Savior who came to rescue and redeem us. Just as a shield shields us from dangers, Jesus came to shield us from the consequences of sin and bring us into a restored relationship with God.
When we truly grasp the significance of this truth, our hearts cannot help but overflow with joy. The psalmist's response is one of trust, exultation, and thanksgiving. These emotions are rooted in the knowledge that God is not distant or indifferent to our struggles, but actively involved in our lives, providing help and strength when we need it the most.
As we prepare our hearts to celebrate the birth of Jesus, let us also remember that He is not just a historical figure we commemorate but a living and present Savior who desires to be our strength and shield. Let us place our trust in Him, knowing that He will never fail us.
As we encounter various challenges and uncertainties in life, we can find comfort and strength in the Lord. He is our constant source of joy, even in the midst of trials. Our hearts can exult and rejoice, not because our circumstances are perfect, but because we have a faithful and loving God who walks alongside us every step of the way.
Today, let us pause and reflect on the joy that the advent season brings. May it ignite a renewed trust in our hearts, knowing that the Lord is our strength and shield. Let us be grateful for His help and protection, and offer our songs of thanksgiving to Him who deserves all our praise.
