Living in the Peace of Christ

12/15/2023

"And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." - Colossians 3:17 ESV

As we continue our Advent journey, reflecting on the attributes of this season, our focus today is on peace. Peace is a precious gift from God, and it holds great significance during this time of anticipation and preparation. In the midst of the hustle and bustle, the pressures and demands of life, we are called to live in the peace that comes from knowing Christ.

The apostle Paul, in his letter to the Colossians, encourages us to let the peace of Christ rule in our hearts (Colossians 3:15). This peace is not merely the absence of conflict or turmoil, but a deep-seated tranquility that surpasses our understanding. It is a peace that remains unshaken even when the world around us may be in chaos.

In today's verse, Paul reminds us that everything we do, in both our words and deeds, should be done in the name of the Lord Jesus. This means that our thoughts, actions, and motives should reflect the character of Christ. When we surrender our lives to Him, His peace becomes our guiding force, shaping our decisions, and influencing our interactions with others.

In a world filled with anxiety, stress, and uncertainty, we have the privilege of living differently. We have the opportunity to be living reflections of God's peace, bringing hope and tranquility into every situation we encounter. Our actions and words should be marked by grace, love, forgiveness, and compassion, ultimately pointing others to the Prince of Peace.

Living in the peace of Christ means that we trust in His sovereignty and have confidence in His faithfulness. It means that we no longer need to rely on our own understanding or strive to control every aspect of our lives. Instead, we can rest in the assurance that God is in control, and His plans are perfect.

Let us embrace this attribute of Advent, inviting the peace of Christ to rule in our hearts. Let us remember that our purpose is to glorify God in everything we do. Whether it be in our work, relationships, or daily interactions, may we give thanks to God the Father through Jesus Christ, recognizing that true peace is found in Him alone.

Let us be intentional in seeking the peace of Christ. Let us allow His peace to permeate every aspect of our lives, and may it overflow to those around us. As we reflect His peace, others will witness the transformative power of Christ, drawing them closer to the One who offers peace that surpasses all understanding.
