Go and Make Disciples

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." - Matthew 28:19 NIV

In Matthew 28:19, Jesus gives His disciples a clear and compelling mandate: to go and make disciples of all nations. This verse, known as the Great Commission, is not just a historical directive but a timeless call to action for every believer.

The entire verse is really a call to action with clear direction on the what, who and how.

Go:
The command to "go" implies movement and intentionality. Jesus is calling us to step out of our comfort zones and engage with the world around us. It may mean crossing cultural, social, or even personal barriers to reach others with His love and truth.

As followers of Christ, we are called to go out into the world and share the good news of the gospel with all people. This verse reminds us of the Great Commission that Jesus gave to his disciples before ascending into heaven.

Make Disciples:
Making disciples involves more than just sharing the gospel; it is about nurturing new believers in their faith, helping them grow in understanding, and guiding them to live in obedience to Christ. Discipleship is relational and requires commitment, patience, and love. It is a reminder that we are not called to keep our faith to ourselves, but to actively engage in making disciples and spreading the message of God's love to all nations.

All Nations:
Jesus’ vision for His kingdom is inclusive and expansive. It challenges us to look beyond our immediate surroundings and consider the global mission. We are called to share the gospel with people from every nation, tribe, and tongue, reflecting God’s heart for the world.

Baptizing:
Baptism is a public declaration of faith and an important step in the journey of discipleship. It symbolizes the believer's identification with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. As we baptize others, we welcome them into the family of God, affirming their new identity in Christ.

It is a public declaration of our faith and a way to welcome others into the family of believers. As we go out and share the gospel with others, we are inviting them to join us in this journey of faith and discipleship.

In the Name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit:
Baptizing in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is a symbol of our commitment to follow Jesus and be part of his family. This Trinitarian formula highlights the fullness of God’s nature and the unity within the Godhead. It reminds us that our mission is grounded in the authority and presence of the Triune God, who empowers us for this great task.

Reflect on how you can be a disciple-maker in your daily life. Consider your workplace, your neighborhood, or even your social media presence as fields ripe for harvest. Ask God to show you specific ways to reach out, share His love, and invest in the spiritual growth of others. Remember, the Great Commission is not just for missionaries and pastors; it is for every believer, including you.

May this verse serve as a reminder of our duty as Christians to share the love of Christ with others and to make disciples of all nations. Let us be bold in our faith and willing to step out of our comfort zones to spread the message of God's grace and salvation to those around us.

Heavenly Father, thank You for entrusting us with the Great Commission. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit, giving us the courage and wisdom to go and make disciples of all nations. Help us to see every person as You see them, with love and compassion. Equip us to share Your gospel effectively and to nurture new believers in their faith. May our lives reflect Your glory and draw others to Your kingdom. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
