Living in the Grace of God
02/08/2025
“For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say ‘No’ to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age.”
—Titus 2:11-12 (NIV)
The grace of God is not just a theological concept; it’s an active, transforming force in our lives. Paul reminds us in this passage that grace is not only about salvation, it is also about sanctification. It is God’s grace that calls us, saves us, and then teaches us how to live.
When Paul says that the grace of God “has appeared,” he is referring to Jesus Christ, who came into the world to redeem us. His life, death, and resurrection are the clearest expression of God’s grace, demonstrating His love and mercy toward all people. But notice what grace does: it teaches us. Grace is not passive; it is a divine instructor, training us in the ways of holiness.
There are two things to know about grace: first, it teaches us to say no to ungodliness and worldly passions. This means turning away from anything that draws us away from God, sinful habits, selfish ambitions, and the fleeting pleasures of this world. The grace of God does not excuse sin; it empowers us to reject it.
Second, grace teaches us to live differently, to embrace self-control, uprightness, and godliness in this present age. It calls us to be distinct from the world, to live lives that reflect the character of Christ. Self-control helps us master our desires, uprightness keeps us honest and just in our dealings, and godliness centers our hearts on God in every aspect of life.
Here are a few ways you can apply this to your life starting today.
Reflect on God’s Grace
How has God’s grace shaped your life? Take time today to thank Him for His unmerited favor.
Examine Your Passions
Are there worldly desires or distractions pulling you away from God? Ask the Holy Spirit to help you say “No” to anything that competes with your devotion to Christ.
Pursue Godliness Daily
Seek ways to grow in self-control, integrity, and a deeper relationship with God. Perhaps it’s through prayer, reading Scripture, or serving others with love.
Grace is more than a ticket to heaven—it is the power to live a life that glorifies God. Today, embrace grace as your teacher and walk in the beauty of a life transformed by Him.
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your amazing grace that not only saves but also transforms me. Teach me to say no to anything that draws me away from You and to live a life that honors You. Help me to walk in self-control, righteousness, and godliness in every area of my life. May my life be a reflection of Your grace to the world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
