Strength in Weakness

202.18.2025

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
— 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV)

Have you ever felt like you didn’t have what it takes? Maybe you’ve faced a situation so overwhelming that you wondered how you could possibly endure. Paul knew that feeling well. He had what he called a “thorn in the flesh,” something painful, persistent, and humbling. Three times he pleaded with God to take it away, but the answer he received wasn’t the one he expected. Instead of removing the struggle, God reassured Paul with these words: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

It’s a paradox of the Christian life. God’s power is most evident when we are at our weakest. The world tells us to be strong, to push through, to rely on our own abilities. But God’s way is different. He invites us to embrace our weaknesses so that His strength can shine through.

Paul’s response is remarkable: he chooses to boast in his weaknesses. He doesn’t just accept them, he celebrates them, because they are the very things that make room for God’s power to work in him. Instead of seeing his limitations as barriers, he sees them as opportunities for God’s grace to be revealed.

Here are a few examples of what you can do to improve your strength when you are weak.

Acknowledge Your Weaknesses
Rather than pretending to have it all together, be honest about your struggles. Where do you feel weak today?

Rely on God’s Grace
His grace is not just a vague concept; it is an active, sustaining force in your life. Trust that His grace is enough, even when you feel inadequate.

Let God’s Power Rest on You
When you surrender your weakness to Him, you invite His power to be made perfect in you. Instead of hiding your struggles, allow them to be a testimony of His strength.

When you feel weakest, God is strongest. His grace is not just enough, it is more than enough. Lean into Him today, and watch how His power sustains you.

Lord, I often feel weak and inadequate, but today I choose to rest in Your grace. Thank You for reminding me that I don’t have to rely on my own strength. Help me to trust You in my struggles and to see my weaknesses as opportunities for Your power to be revealed. Let Your strength shine through me today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
