From Death to Life

02/11/2025

“Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.” — John 5:24 (NIV)

Imagine standing at the edge of a vast canyon, with no way to cross. On one side is darkness, sin, separation, and spiritual death. On the other side is light, eternal life, peace, and the presence of God. The gap is impossible to bridge on our own. But Jesus declares that through Him, we are not left stranded. When we hear His words and believe, we are not just promised future salvation; we have eternal life now. In Him, we have already stepped into the kingdom of God.

This verse is a powerful reminder that salvation is not about earning favor or fearing judgment, it’s about faith in the One who was sent. Jesus doesn’t say we might cross over or that we hope to be spared from judgment. He says we have crossed over. It’s done. The moment we believe in Him, the shift is immediate.

What does this mean for us today? It means we no longer walk in fear of condemnation. It means we live each day with the confidence that we are God’s, secure in His promise. It means that even when we face trials, our eternal destiny is unshaken.

Here are a few things we can to today to incorporate this into our life.

Listen to His Word
Jesus says, “whoever hears my word…” Are you taking time daily to listen to His voice through Scripture, prayer, and reflection? Make it a priority to hear Him.

Live in Assurance
If you have placed your trust in Christ, you have already crossed from death to life. Walk in the peace and confidence of that truth.

Share the Good News
If Jesus has given you life, how can you keep it to yourself? Share this hope with someone today.

Today, take a few moments and reflect on this verse. Are you ready for eternity? Do you believe Him who sent Jesus? Do you know His voice?

Lord Jesus, thank You for Your promise of eternal life. I am grateful that my salvation is not based on my efforts but on my faith in You. Help me to live each day in the confidence of Your finished work, and let my life reflect Your light to those still in darkness. Amen.
