Refreshing Others to Be Refreshed
11/14/2024
“A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”
— Proverbs 11:25 (NIV)
In a world where we’re often encouraged to look out for ourselves, Proverbs 11:25 reminds us of a beautiful truth: true prosperity and satisfaction come when we pour into others. Generosity is not just about material giving; it’s about sharing our time, our compassion, and our encouragement with those around us. When we lift others up, we find that our own spirits are lifted as well.
Consider a time when you helped someone in need. Maybe you lent a listening ear to a friend, offered your skills to someone who was struggling, or simply shared a smile and a kind word. Often, these small acts leave us feeling as though we’ve received more than we gave. This is the refreshing promise of todays verse, the more we bless others, the more we ourselves are blessed in return.
In the Bible, we see many examples of people who refreshed others and experienced refreshment in return. In the book of Acts, we find the story of Barnabas, whose name means “Son of Encouragement.” He encouraged the early church, supported Paul, and invested in people’s lives, and in turn, God blessed him by surrounding him with deep, meaningful relationships.
Ask yourself today: “How can I be a source of refreshment to those around me?” Maybe you could reach out to someone who needs encouragement or offer help without expecting anything in return. Let’s remember that when we take the time to uplift others, we’ll find ourselves lifted too.
Lord, thank You for the opportunity to give generously and refresh others. Help me to see the needs around me and to respond with kindness and love. Remind me that in giving, I will also receive, and in blessing others, I, too, will be blessed. Amen.
